Great entertainment, great food and great company—what more could a group of folks ask for on a Saturday night?
Instead of watching some depressing newscast about the stock market crisis, a few of us from XanGo got babysitters for the night and attended the annual OpKids gala at the Grand America hotel. What a night!
I met Dennis Haysbert (the President of the United States on the TV show 24). I must admit, when I meet TV people I sometimes freeze up and say awkward things… like: “You were a really great President… on that TV show 24… Umm, you should really run for President! I sell juice!! Ok bye!!!”
Anyway, to recap an excellent night:
For the fifth year in a row, XanGo was proud to be the title sponsor for the Operation Kids black tie gala. The annual fundraiser has become the most significant charity dinner in the state, and Saturday night was no exception.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement award was presented to John Walsh, host of America’s Most Wanted, for his dedication to children’s safety.
The evening was hosted by actor Dennis Haysbert (24, The Unit). Seriously, Dennis was really great and even told my wife he loved her shoes. There were tribute speeches by Daniel J. Travanti (Hill Street Blues, Adam), Senator Orrin Hatch and Attorney General Mark Shurtliff. Headliners Collin Raye and Jim Brickman performed live and were streamed to a nationwide audience.
All proceeds raised went to funding child safety initiatives through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, The McGruff Safehouse Network and the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.
As always, we’re proud to support Operation Kids and it was great to see a man like John Walsh receive the recognition he deserves.
